1) For members who stop by one of our branches during this month, we’re giving away 2008 calendars. They have lovely landscape scenes from across America. The December ’07 photo is pictured at the bottom of this post. You had best hurry on over because they’re are going quickly!
2) Also at our two branches, until year end, we’re collecting items for The Homeless Shelter in Danville. While homelessness does not appear to be a rampant problem in Danville, our local homeless shelter stays plenty busy. Their director, Cindy Hill, says that during and after the Holidays there is usually an increase in those who are temporarily without a place to stay. Here is a list of items that they have an ongoing need for:
- Canned Cola
- Instant Oatmeal
- Cup Soups
- Coffee and Hot Chocolate
- Pop-top Foods (like Chef Boyardee)
- Laundry and Automatic Dishwasher Detergent
- Trash Bags
- Women’s Personal Items
Mrs. Hill says that an important need in the winter is money. This is due to the increased energy costs that come with heating the building. We’re not collecting money at the credit union so if you are interested in helping The Homeless Shelter in this way you may contact Cindy Hill directly at (434)799-3671. She is also very appreciative of groups that want to prepare or bring meal for a group of 5-15 people.
Here’s that photo from the 2008 calendar:
